I crave the approval of gen z just as much as the next millennial, so you can also find this tutorial on tiktok to see it in action. This is my go-to when my hair is very dirty but I don’t want to go all the way Sarah Jessica Parker in Family Stone. I think a mid-height bun is a nice feminine up-do to complement a more masculine outfit.
First, I take my Mason Pearson brush and drag the top third of my filthy hair back into a ponytail, leaving the part intact. Keep brushing the hair back until the top is smooth. That is key. Then secure that section with a clear rubber band.
Then brush the rest of your hair back, smoothing all the way around, and use a regular ponytail holder to tie it back with the original third so all your hair is in one ponytail, not low, not high, but dead center.
Split the ponytail into two. Take one half and twist it, then wrap it around the base of your ponytail. Then take these updo bobby pins and secure it into place. It takes me about 2 or 3 per section.
Repeat that step by taking the other half of the hair, twisting it the opposite way and wrapping it around until everything is in a neat little bun. When it’s looking good, secure it all with a few bobby pins.
The last step is smoothing everything back with my Dae styling cream.
